On the far northern
border of South Africa lies a beautiful area known as the Great
Marico and it is in this spectacular setting, in the malaria free
Madikwe Game Reserve, that Tau Game Lodge South Africa is situated.
This is a Big 5 Game Park with breeding herds of elephants, white
and black rhino's, lions, cheetahs, spotted & brown hyena's,
buffalo, leopards, zebra, endangered wild dogs, giraffes, ostriches
and warthogs as well as Various antelope species.
The jumbled hillocks of Tshwene-Tshwene and the dramatic ridge of the Dwarsberg Mountains expose rocks of up to 2630 million years old and artifacts of the Stone and Iron Ages are still found in the Great Marico dust.
Privately-owned Tau Game Lodge was built in 1995 and overlooks a vast natural waterhole, which attracts a variety of game, as does the diverse vegetation which thrives in the fertile topsoil.
Tau Game Lodge at a Glance:
The main body of the Lodge is two-leveled and has a comfortable lounge, conference facilities, bar and dining room which are semi open-air and overlook the waterhole. The lodge is decorated with unusual African artifacts.
The decor and furnishings of Tau Game Lodge are Africa-inspired and the rooms are equipped with both air-conditioning and ceiling fans.
Tau Game Lodge Accommodation
Thirty rustic
thatched chalets each of which has its own
wooden deck, which allows one to experience the bush in privacy
and is equipped with an en-suite bathroom and open-air shower.
The Accommodation Chalets are spread out in U-formation
on either side of the lodge, offering excellent views of animals
approaching the water from the opposite bank.
Enjoy the South African wildlife and the tranquility of nature right on your doorstep while staying in comfortable and luxury accommodation.
Activities
Exciting early morning
and afternoon/evening game drives in open landrovers and guided
safari walks, night safaris with powerful spotlights.
Guest are accompanied by enthusiastic and knowledgeable armed
rangers.
Wildlife
Lion, elephant, black
and white rhino, buffalo, leopard - Big Five- also cheetah and
wild dog - Magnificent seven.
Giraffe, zebra, warthog, baboon, monkey, hippo, crocodile, and a variety of antelope including kudu, impala, waterbuck, Springbok, Wildebeest, Eland, Blesbok, Tsessebe and Steenbok are regularly seen, along with a number of the more elusive or less common animals. With a bird population of over 250 different species. Bring your binoculars!
Access
The lodge is accessible
by road (approx. 4 hours from Johannesburg) or by daily schedule
flights from Johannesburg International Airport. Air Botswana
to Gaborone from Johannesburg International Airport. Transfers
from the Airport to Tau can be organised. Private air charters
to the Madikwe Airstrip on request.
Tau Game Lodge is a two hour drive from Sun City and 28km from Gaborone Airport in Botswana.
Child policy
Children 6yrs
- 11 yrs stay at 50% of adult rate and may participate in the
Game Drives. Children 6yrs and under stay free but are not allowed
on Game Drives.
There is a special Kiddies Game Drives in the Mornings for Children 3yrs - 11yrs. Duration: 1hour

The lodge has
telephone, email and facsimile facilities.
Power Supply
The lodge
is powered by ESCOM and power points are available in the rooms
for chargers, electrical shavers and hairdryers, they are also
linked to a generator in case of a Power failure.
